I've just come back from a solo mountaineering trip to the Southern Alps, armed with sketches, photos and a head swirling with painting possibilities.

Weather and conditions were mixed, but I had success on a number of viewpoints I'd planned for, and am now looking forward to painting the great peaks in all their Winter majesty.

Here's a photo of me making a quick sketch of Aoraki (Mt Cook) from my camp at about 1800m on the Ball Ridge. Warm when the sun was out, but temperatures quickly dropped to below -10 in the evenings.

I also have a number of Scottish commissions in the planning stages.
